The Palm Springs Unified School District includes 12 elementary schools, four of which serve various parts of Cathedral City. The other primary schools serve Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage.

At the middle school level, Nellie N. Coffman School serves south Cathedral City while James Workman School serves the city's north side.

At the secondary level, Cathedral City High School serves the city. About 90 percent of the students graduate, about 7 percent higher than the state average. Also, 37.2 percent of the students take part in vocational education, slightly below the state average 42.7 percent, according to 1995-96 state statistics.

Cathedral City residents also have access to Continuation and Adult Education. Mount San Jacinto and Las Brisas offer continuation programs, while Palm Springs Community and Palm Springs Adult provide adult education programs. Las Brisas serves Desert Hot Springs; the other three schools serve the entire district.
