Other Communities The Desert Sands Unified School District includes 14 elementary schools, eight of which serve Indio. The other primary schools serve Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, La Quinta and Palm Desert. At the middle school level, Indio students attend Indio Middle School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Woodrow Wilson Middle School. At the secondary level, Indio students attend Indio High School. About 77 percent of the students graduate from Indio High School, about 6 percent below the state average. Also, 35.1 percent of the students take part in vocational education, 7 percent below the state average 42.7 percent, according to 1995-96 state statistics. Indio residents also have access to Continuation schools. La Familia and Amistad offer continuation programs, each serving the entire district. Adult education programs are offered at the Palm View School campus.
